Listen up ladies and gents… the hustle and bustle of holiday season is HERE, and as we begin to slip into an endless tailspin of eggnog fueled holiday parties and shopping excursions of marathon-like proportions, our stress levels can definitely take a hit! So much for the “most wonderful time of the year“, am I right?!
For many of us, the biggest source of holiday stress is hosting the ever-so intimidating family dinner on Christmas Eve or Christmas day, and despite military-like preparation, something always seems to go wrong. From potentially leaving price tags on perfectly thought-out gifts to GASP, over-cooking the turkey, the pressure of hosting over the holidays can be SO real!
Well, I am more than pleased to inform you I’ve got you completely covered in the whole holiday hosting department… at least when it comes to the Christmas Tablescape! So even though you’re turkey might be a little “crispier” than originally anticipated… at least your tablescape will be Pinterest-perfect!
1. Keep It Simple
I’m most definitely a less is more type of gal when it comes to assembling a holiday tablescape; opting for classic, minimal pieces that make a big statement! Often the holiday meal serves as a centerpiece in itself, so you want your table décor to complement the meal; neither the decoration nor the food should completely overpower the other. In some instances, I find that when the food is placed on the table, your setting can become cluttered quite quickly… which will take away from the festive ambiance that you’re trying to achieve! Subtlety is paramount; create a central focal point for your table and then work around this.
2. Stick to a Theme
Are you a rustic elegance, chic modern minimalist or classic Christmas type of person? Working with a theme can help make things a LOT easier in terms of selecting pieces to create a uniform, put together (and fabulous) look! Once you have a specific vision in mind, you’ll be able to narrow your focus on the type of product or dinnerware required to make all of your tablescape dreams come to fruition… not to mention, your stress levels agonizing over details will drastically decrease!
For this specific setting, I wanted to pay homage to a classic Christmas Carol – Silver & Gold… one of my absolute favourites! I prefer these elegant colours over the more traditional red and green, plus – metallics are TOTALLY in right now! Now that’s not to say that your tried and true Christmas colours are a tablescape “faux-pas” (they definitely have their place), it’s simply all about personal style. Select a theme that speaks to you and have FUN with it!
Here’s what I utilized to achieve my Silver & Gold theme:
3. Add Some Fun, Whimsical Touches
The holidays are an incredibly fun, whimsical time of the year, so try to make your tablescape embody some of that extraordinary Christmas magic! You’ve essentially been given the most perfect “hall pass” so to speak, to unapologetically play with glitter, metallics, patterns and colours… take advantage of it! Even if you tend to err more on the side of caution décor-wise, try throwing in a dash of red here or some beautifully embroidered napkins there! You most definitely won’t regret it, and your guests will appreciate that nostalgic, whimsical quality they’ll undoubtedly experience whilst eating at your dinner table!
I’m particularly tickled pink by these insanely adorable “Jingle Napkin Rings” by Harman! I mean, you can’t help but smile when you look at them… SO unique and whimsical, yet simultaneously SO classy!
