Halloween Cocktail & Bar Essentials

“Hocus Pocus, I need wine to focus”

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been logging an inordinate number of hours to prep for my third annual Halloweekend Party up in Haliburton! A seriously unhealthy number of hours might I add. Guys, I literally treat this party with utmost seriousness. Like more serious than Christmas, my Birthday, Valentines’ Day, Easter & Thanksgiving combined. It is the REAL friggin’ deal. Now without a doubt, one of my very favourite things to research for my party has GOT to be the Halloween Cocktails – or “spirits” if you will! HOWEVER, I’ve always been wildly intimidated to actually try them out for myself! But THIS year, I’ve decided to throw my big boy pants on, & take on FOUR Halloween cocktails for my party – & I could NOT be more excited: they are so so SO on theme! So to help you guys also get into the spirit of things, I thought I’d share a few SPOOK-tacular Cocktail & Halloween Bar inspirations with all of YOU today!  (more…)

Kitchen & Dining Room Inspirations for Thanksgiving

“Thanksgiving is an emotional time. People travel thousands of miles to be with people they only see once a year. And then discover once a year is way too often”

Johnny Carson

You GUYS! I have been both mentally & physically prepping my body, mind & soul for the obscene glutinous journey it is about to embark on this Thanksgiving Weekend. All of my stretchiest of leggings & my flowiest of shirts have been laundered, pressed & packed for the cottage & I’m literally counting down the MILISECONDS until 3:01pm this coming Friday afternoon! The excitement is literally so real. Now… I wanted to do something a TAD bit different on the blog this year to commemorate the holiday, & because Thanksgiving IS heavily centred around food & that infamous big Turkey Dinner – AKA you’ll likely be spending a TON of time in the kitchen & dining room – I thought I’d share a few of my favourite kitchen & dining room inspirations, accompanied by some of my personal kitchen entertaining tips for Thanksgiving!!! 2017 Fall & Halloween Bucket List

“The only thing getting lit this weekend are my fall scented candles”

Pinterest

Okay, I know, I know.…. I’ve done literally a MILLION Bucket List posts on both this blog & the Ambrosia Blog but truth be told I’m kind of OBSESSED with them! SUE ME. Also, to be honest, this week has been a bit taxing in terms of deadlines & workloads so a short n’ sweet Bucket List blog post is literally just about ALL I have time for, & can handle this week! So thanks in advance for bearing with me my lovely little readers! I promise to be a tad bit more innovative & creative next week 🙂 (more…)

The Perfect Ginger Beer Fall Cocktail

“Cocktails are like a present you give to yourself”

@tandjdesigns

You GUYS…. In case you weren’t following along on Insta over the weekend, one of my very best friends got MARRIED this past Sunday! It seriously could NOT have been a more perfect day – the decor was honestly so fabulously dreamy my iPhone Camera nearly exploded with pure & utter joy at what it had the PLEASURE of being exposed to that day! Also there was lots of love goin’ on, & I suppose that is also pretty great too 😛 Now seeing as how I’m still in somewhat of a “celebratory mood”, & also because tomorrow is the first OFFICIAL day of fall – SO MUCH TO BE HAPPY ABOUT – I thought I’d share this incredibly delicious Fall Cocktail with all of you today! ENJOY! (more…)

Tips for Decorating a Small Condo for Thanksgiving

“I come from a family where gravy is considered a beverage”

Erma Bombeck

There are many warranted concerns people have when transitioning into condo life; small living space, loud neighbors, high utility fees, & minimal storage are all GREAT examples of such completely warranted concerns. Being filled with sheer & utter dread that you won’t be able to decorate said “small living space” for the holidays? Yeah… not SO warranted! However this concern was legitimately at the very tip top of my list when Andrei & I signed the lease for our 600sq. foot condo in Toronto. I am obsessed with any & all holidays (although Halloween undoubtedly comes in at number one) & the mere thought that a perfectly carved Jack-O-Lantern or a neutral, rustic Christmas tree would not be within the realm of possibilities was just way too much disappointment to bear. No… this little scenario was simply NOT an option. I therefore made it my MISSION to find pieces that work in small spaces, yet still TOTALLY accomplished that nostalgic, holiday vibe I was so, so SO, craving! First up on the holiday list? Thanksgiving! Enjoy! (more…)

Haliburton Life – “Get off the Dock”

“Wander without reason or purpose”

Pinterest

I am a total creature of habit, with a proclivity toward the mundane & a staunch devotion for anything involving routine. It’s honestly just my jam. I wake up each morning, hop on the subway, start the 9-5 work day, walk the hour & a half home – fittin’ in that fitness, obvs – & then proceed to work on the blog or any outstanding freelance pieces that are seemingly always on the go these days. On repeat… 5 days a week. Prepping for the PERFECT Picnic!

“A compromise is an agreement whereby both parties get what neither of them wanted”

Compromise. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that prior to entering a long term relationship, “compromise” was a wildly under-utilized word in my vocabulary. In fact I’m nearly positive that it had been sufficiently wiped from my rather selfish brain almost entirely. I’m an Aries… so that KIND OF excuses me though, right? Like, it’s LITERALLY written in the stars or something along those lines? Alas, the tables somewhat turned upon shacking up with my dearly beloved earlier this year & I can now, with 100 percent confidence, recite every possible meaning & origin of the word “compromise” on a level comparable to that of a linguist. I mean, snaps for realizing that someone else’s needs were just as important as mine… if not more! Anywho – our most recent venture into “compromise land” as a co-habitational couple has been deciding how to divvy up our weekends so that we’re able to enjoy quality time with both of our families. AKA. I cannot quite remember a time that I’ve spent less time at the cottage & more time in the city as I have over the past few months!! (more…)

Rose & Lavender Bed Linen Spray

“I’m like… four days past my bedtime”

Pinterest

When it comes to activities that are deemed socially acceptable in terms of “Basic Betch” standards, an obligatory trip to the Lavender Farm during Summer has undoubtedly joined the ranks of such sought-after “basic” excursions like Apple Orchard visits during Autumn & Tulip Festivals in Spring. It has seriously become THE coveted Summer Instagram Photo-op of 2017, & I whole-heartedly applaud & fully support these efforts. I mean, my Instagram Feed has postively blown UP with the cutest Lavender Farm photos & I almost literally cannot even anymore. Also it’s super great to get out & enjoy nature & all that jazz too, or whatever…. NOW seeing as how I haven’t actually had the opportunity to get out there & explore one of these Lavender Farms myself, I thought I’d still try to hop on that good ol’ “Lavender Train” & share a simple Lavender DIY recipe with all of you today! Insert: Rose & Lavender Essential Oil Linen Sprays!   (more…)

Rustic Cottage Dinner Party

“The last time I cooked, hardly anyone got sick!”

ecards

If you happen to be a regular follower of this blog, I’m sure it’s quite obvious that I have an unhealthy penchant for all things Halloween; an obsession which I believe likley falls somewhere in the realm of “fetish”. Yep… it’s literally THAT intense. Each year, I host a Halloween Dinner Party that relies heavily on blood, gore & guts as its primary tablescape elements, so assembling today’s quaint & rustic cottage dinner setting was just a tad outside of my comfort zone to say the least! I mean, the two could NOT be further apart on the decor & dinner party spectrum. Nevertheless, I was totally up for the challenge & I HAVE to say that I completely nailed this one folks!  (more…)

10 Things you NEED to try in Haliburton

“I’m lost at the lake, don’t bother me”

Pinterest

To be QUITE frank, ever since making the “big move” to Toronto, I’ve discovered that I am undeniably, one hundred percent NOT a city girl. Having grown up as a bright eyed, sheltered gal from the burbs, I’d always been WILDLY envious of my Torontonion counterparts when they would describe big city life as vibrant, colourful or going so far as to suggest that it makes them “feel alive“. So I’m sure you can only imagine the shock & disappointment I felt when I discovered that running through the 6ix with my woes is simply not all it’s cracked up to be. Thanks for nothing, Aubrey. If anything, the only reason I’ve ever felt more “alive” in this city is because I’m now acutely in tune with my own mortality. Bleak, I’m aware – but let’s just say that my experience here has been very Gotham City rather than Sex & the City. I’m sorry fellow city dwellers, Toronto DOES have an undeniably amazing culture & social scene… but I tried, & the city life is just not for me!
