Rose & Lavender Bed Linen Spray

“I’m like… four days past my bedtime”

Pinterest

When it comes to activities that are deemed socially acceptable in terms of “Basic Betch” standards, an obligatory trip to the Lavender Farm during Summer has undoubtedly joined the ranks of such sought-after “basic” excursions like Apple Orchard visits during Autumn & Tulip Festivals in Spring. It has seriously become THE coveted Summer Instagram Photo-op of 2017, & I whole-heartedly applaud & fully support these efforts. I mean, my Instagram Feed has postively blown UP with the cutest Lavender Farm photos & I almost literally cannot even anymore. Also it’s super great to get out & enjoy nature & all that jazz too, or whatever…. NOW seeing as how I haven’t actually had the opportunity to get out there & explore one of these Lavender Farms myself, I thought I’d still try to hop on that good ol’ “Lavender Train” & share a simple Lavender DIY recipe with all of you today! Insert: Rose & Lavender Essential Oil Linen Sprays!   (more…)

Rustic Cottage Dinner Party

“The last time I cooked, hardly anyone got sick!”

ecards

If you happen to be a regular follower of this blog, I’m sure it’s quite obvious that I have an unhealthy penchant for all things Halloween; an obsession which I believe likley falls somewhere in the realm of “fetish”. Yep… it’s literally THAT intense. Each year, I host a Halloween Dinner Party that relies heavily on blood, gore & guts as its primary tablescape elements, so assembling today’s quaint & rustic cottage dinner setting was just a tad outside of my comfort zone to say the least! I mean, the two could NOT be further apart on the decor & dinner party spectrum. Nevertheless, I was totally up for the challenge & I HAVE to say that I completely nailed this one folks!  (more…)

10 Things you NEED to try in Haliburton

“I’m lost at the lake, don’t bother me”

Pinterest

To be QUITE frank, ever since making the “big move” to Toronto, I’ve discovered that I am undeniably, one hundred percent NOT a city girl. Having grown up as a bright eyed, sheltered gal from the burbs, I’d always been WILDLY envious of my Torontonion counterparts when they would describe big city life as vibrant, colourful or going so far as to suggest that it makes them “feel alive“. So I’m sure you can only imagine the shock & disappointment I felt when I discovered that running through the 6ix with my woes is simply not all it’s cracked up to be. Thanks for nothing, Aubrey. If anything, the only reason I’ve ever felt more “alive” in this city is because I’m now acutely in tune with my own mortality. Bleak, I’m aware – but let’s just say that my experience here has been very Gotham City rather than Sex & the City. I’m sorry fellow city dwellers, Toronto DOES have an undeniably amazing culture & social scene… but I tried, & the city life is just not for me! Andrei’s Cherry Gelato

“I scream. You scream. The police come… It’s awkward”

Pinterest

Let me just preface this post by saying that this gelato is one hundred percent not healthy for you. It is neither dairy or sugar-free, nor is it free from fats, calories, or the guilt synonymous with indulging in sugar ridden, summer treats such as this. Just good ol’ fashioned, “how your momma made it”, gelato. Okay – I lied, I actually felt zero percent guilt when I sat down to consume nearly an entire pint in just one sitting. OH – & we did use gluten-free cones from Let’s Do Organic; so there’s also that… (more…)

Au Naturel Shower Favourite: Oneka

“Taking forever in the shower because you like to stand there… just thinkin’ about life”

Rebloggy

Showering at the cottage is somewhat of a foreign concept, & a mundane task such as bathing will likely only be reserved for high emergency situations. So high, in fact, that I cannot even think of a situation so dire that would warrant having to pull myself from any given cottage activity just to carry out such a non-essential task. I mean, why shower when I have this perfectly good glass of pinot in one hand & great book in the other? It’s only been six days laying out in the sweltering heat…. I’m sure I can fester in my own filth for just one  day longer. Ask any cottager…. I can one hundred percent guarantee that this is a legitimate thought that goes through their head. HOWEVER, when I DO shower up North, I like to utilize products that work to protect our fragile environments. (more…)

Peach, Blueberry & Ginger Beer Cocktails

“My biological clock is telling me it’s time for a cocktail”

ecards

I’ve always been incredibly envious of food & beverage bloggers. They churn out original recipes seemingly on the daily, whilst I can barely pull it together enough to crack open the good ol’ crockpot & dump in a bunch of miscellaneous leftovers in the hopes that SOME sort of edible magic will happen – I thrive in a constant state of convenience what can I say. HOWEVER, I’m actually insanely proud of myself because I recently concocted THE most delicious, summer appropriate cocktail that I believe is on par with the foodiest of food bloggers out there (I see you Martha). It’s a Moscow Mule, but with a bit of a twist in the best way possible! Enjoy!  (more…)

Paris… On a Budget!

“Paris exists to remind you that your dreams are real”

Paris Up Close

I seriously feel as though Paris was MONTHS ago!! Can I go back now please? I’ve been meaning to write this blog for the past week or so, but am admittedly still feeling that post-vacay bliss. AKA. I want to do absolutely nothing but sit on my tushie & binge watch The Handmaid’s Tale whilst binge eating baguettes & macarons literally all day. Side Note: I fully realize this situation sounds more like “rut” than “bliss“, but I’m a glass half full kinda gal, so we’re going to go ahead & roll with “bliss” today. So – I FINALLY decided to pull myself together – partially because I’d finished The Handmaid’s Tale (snaps for Peggy), but MOSTLY because I was afraid that all of my Paris tips & tricks (& they’re goodies) would soon be a distant memory & I’d therefore have zero information to give all of you! So… yeah… you’re welcome! 😛  (more…)

Canada Day Cottage Essentials

“If a Canadian falls in the forest & no one is around… does he/she still apologize?”

Pinterest

Ps. The answer is undoubtedly always yes. HAI there my fellow crazy Canucks! What are your plans to celebrate the big “150” this weekend? I personally plan on commemorating this special occasion by planting my pretty little keister in a Muskoka Chair lakeside, with a ceasar in one hand & a…. oh heck, who am I kidding – with a ceasar in the other one too… because obviously. Well, considering lakeside Northern escapes are kind of our jam here in the Great White North, I felt it apt to share a few of my favourite beach/dock/pool essentials – however I’ve tailored them slightly to accommodate Canada Day celebrations!!!! Enjoy, & have a happy Canada Day!!!!  (more…)

3 Cottage Appropriate Meals for Canada Day

“On behalf of all Canadians… SORRY for being so awesome all the time”

BuzzFeed

When you factor out black fly & mosquito season, I’d say summer for us Crazy Canucks culminates to a mere four good, “quality weekends“. So when Canada Day long weekend hits, I tend to reserve said weekends solely for trips up to the Great North – aside from when there is some form of mandatory, “super important” social function tying me to the city, like a wedding or shower of sorts…. Which is just the actual WORST – kidding, kidding – but if we’re actually being honest here, I’m really only half kidding because I take my cottage summer weekends VERY VERY seriously. Anywho – my nonsensical, long-winded intro is not for nothing, what I’m getting at here is that I know the “ins & outs” of all things cottage – not limited to “socially acceptable cottage mannerisms” so to speak. And seeing as how Canada Day officially, officially marks the start of cottages, camping & all things summer social, I thought it apt to discuss one of the more traditional & unspoken, yet totally mandatory, responsibilities of a cottage guest: prepping a meal for the weekend! I’m therefore sharing a few different, SIMPLE meal ideas one can bring up for a summer weekend getaway with friends… because it honestly is such an ART! (more…)

Wedding Season Roundup

“We are all a little weird & life’s a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them & fall in mutual weirdness & call it love”

Dr. Seuss

Guys – I’m going to keep this one short & sweet. Primarily because I have been staring helplessly at this screen for the past hour in a desperate attempt to drum up some form of witty, “charm-your-pants” off type of intro – Spoiler Alert: the word “dismal” seems far too optimistic an adjective to describe just how swimmingly this is going. It’s now midnight, my head is killing, & I’m doing my best to not completely freak out over the seemingly endless mountain of looming deadlines I have to meet prior to leaving for Paris this Friday. It’s been one heck of a long week to say the least. Anyways – I’m being a major Negative Nancy – so for those of you who weren’t completely turned off by my “whine fest” & decided to stick it out, well A. good for you, & B. I’m rounding out all of my my favourite wedding posts! Because despite all of my doom & gloom – it’s wedding season; there are some serious love-sick puppies out there & I’ll be damned if I deprive them of their right to bask in all of the wedding glory.

**** Ugh – this intro was neither short or sweet. Let alone witty & charming – just read the roundup… & then lets all collectively forget this post ever happened. Kay? Kay. **** (more…)
